SPARRING WITH MOTHER NATURE ~~ latest addition. I’m very honored that you’re following along. Thank you from the bottom of my writer’s heart.

Ah, the life of a liveaboard Sailor…on a Classic Wooden Sailing Yacht… as of August 1st, 2024 we are undergoing extensive repair and refit and will be for several months(!). In boating terms we are hauled out “on the hard” in Cambridge, Maryland.

I plan to mix Sailing Stories with the challenges and intricacies of restoring a 90-year-old boat. I’m always open to suggestions as to content….please feel free to weigh in as we manage and learn from this unexpected joust. Thank you. J

    • Issues with Reporting Local Notices to Mariners

      Dear Readers and Fellow Boaters,

As you probably know the USCG recently re-formatted the listing style of Local Notices. Instead of the past geographical format of north to south to north arrangement, the items are now listed alphabetically, so that Alligator River in NC is followed by Anacostia River in Washington, DC. The notice week, as in 46/24, is not included, so that you do not know if it is a new notice. Descriptions of the particular problems are not presented in a normal paragraph, but in a tall column.

This new “improved” version makes it impossible to compile notices pertinent to ICW cruisers into a posting as Cruisers Net has done in the past. See CURRENT LOCAL NOTICES TO MARINERS.

      See https://www.navcen.uscg.gov/local-notices-to-mariners?district=5+0&subdistrict=n for examples.

Until these issues are solved, Cruisers Net will have to rely on the limited USCG postings that are emailed to us. And, of course, we always rely on you to alert your fellow cruisers to problems as you encounter them!

      Thank you for your patience!

      Your Cruisers Net Team
