[EXPIRED] Running of the Dragon in Oriental, NC, Neuse River, AICW Statute Mile 173.5
Here is another of the annual celebrations with which the folks of this wonderful boaters community celebrate the Year’s End Season, see /?p=145745. Oriental is also the home of three SALTY SOUTHEAST CRUISERS’ NET SPONSORS: Oriental Marina and Condos, River Dunes Marina and Nautical Wheelers. Skipper Walker had asked about the traditions of the Running of the Dragon and, now we know, it’s for Good Luck!
Running of the Dragon
Touch a dragon for good luck’¦. Be out on Hodges Street on December 31 for the running of the Oriental New Years’ Eve Dragon. There are two runnings. The first run has typically been around 8p, the second around 11:30p. Bring pots, bring pans, and make your own music for the dragon.
After the end of that second dragon run, stick around the Hodges Street waterfront just a few minutes more: at midnight, the Oriental Croaker will drop from the mast of a sailboat at the Town Dock to welcome in the new year. Scenes from last December 31st’s festivities, here.

Was interested in more information and what the traditional meaning of the Running with the Dragon means. Oriental seems to have lots of interesting activities and is such a beautiful community!
