Tropical Storm Isaias has developed over the southwestern Gulf and is forecast to reach hurricane strength during the next 24 hours as it moves ENE at 7 knots with max winds to 40 knots, producing significant wave heights to 4-5 meters (13-16 feet).

      Outlook

During the next 48 hours, Isaias will start to interact with a trough moving into the northwest Gulf which will cause it to turn towards the north and start to accelerate, approaching the northern Gulf Coast by late Friday. Isaias is forecast to peak near 95 knots with significant wave heights building to near 9-10 meters (30-33 feet), but some weakening due to wind shear is expected prior to landfall.

      Warnings

A Hurricane Watch is in effect from Bay St. Louis, Mississippi, to Indian Pass, Florida. There is an increasing risk of life-threatening storm surge along portions of the northern Gulf coast, and a Storm Surge Watch has been issued from The Mouth of the Mississippi River to Yankeetown Florida. Severe localized squalls, flash flooding, and urban/river flooding will impact the central U.S. Gulf Coast and the Southeast starting Friday.
