      Good Words for Staff at New Bern Grand Marina off the Neuse River in New Bern, NC

      The New Bern Grand Marina lies just inside the intersection of the Trent and Neuse Rivers, along the Trent’s northern banks between the low-level Trent River highway and railroad bridges.

      Many thanks to Durl, Allen and the many volunteers who helped prepare the boats and docks for hurricane Irene. During the storm, Allen and the volunteers stayed outside going up and down the floating docks checking the lines and boats to make sure that everything was as secure as possible.Thanks to them, no boats were lost and all damage was minor.
      During the storm we stayed inside in the hotel. In spite of the storm damage the building was taking, the staff and manager Michael McMahon worked around the clock to make us as comfortable as possible.
      I can’t say enough good things about this place, but I will mention that the Coast Guard Station Fort Macon put their boat and people that were not working during the storm here because they knew it was the best and safest place to be. Enough said.

      Praise for Carolina Wind Yachting Center, upstream on the Pamlico River off the AICW in Washington, NC

      Carolina Wind Yachting Center is located on the north banks of the Pamlico River just upstream of the Washington City Docks.

      I was a live-aboard at Carolina Winds (Haven’s Warf) in 1995-1996. Wonderful town and great people. The staff at Carolina Winds are fantastic and know their stuff. Your only major challenges to the town are the railroad bridge. When I lived there, the bridge was `hand cranked’, so if the wind was blowing, they could not get it open.

      Dock Is Ready for Use at Sanitary Fish Market (Morehead City, NC, near Statute Mile 205)

      Sanitary Fish Market (Restaurant) has been a fixture on the Morehead Waterfront since my family first began coming here in the 1950’s. They are kings of fried seafood. For many, many years Sanitary has featured a dock for its patrons along the town waterfront just behind the restaurant The new, updated dock is now open to boaters.

      As per 17 August 11, water at the new floating dock is 15ft deep at low tide. Tide runs 4 to 5 feet. Tie up at the floating dock is unassisted on a first come, first served basis (Grab it and Growl). $25.00/night if you eat dinner there. $1.00/foot if you do not eat there. The $1.00/foot applies when they are closed, the Sunday after Thanksgiving until the first Friday in February.

      Ted Garner, owner of Sanitary Seafood is a friend of ours and an MTOA port capt. He has made some renovations including putting a full service bar at the restaurant in addition to the outside deck. He is just waiting for the permits to put in a new floating dock at the restaurant which he hopes will be in by the end of June. So be patient it will come. In addition, he is a very accommodating port capt. for those who plan to be in the area a need any assistance.

      Update on Inland Waterway Provision Company Store in Oriental, NC, Statute Mile 181

      McCotters Marina, Washington, NC We are delighted to learn that this well-known business in Oriental, NC will remain open. For years, it has been the place to get boat gear and clothing in Oriental. McCotter’s Marina, which suffered a devastating fire earlier this year, is located in nearby Washington, NC and is A SALTY SOUTHEAST CRUISERS’ NET SPONSOR!

      A new owner, McCotter’s Marina of Washington, NC has decided to restock and keep the Inland Waterway store open. The decision was made last Monday and it was open for the Memorial Day weekend. Stock will take a while to rebuild.

      Hurry! Our FREE rent offer expires in May! Ports of Call Restaurant (phone: 910-457-4544) is located at 116 N. Howe St, only a few block east of Southport Marina, A SALTY SOUTHEAST CRUISERS NET SPONSOR. With a Mediterranean menu of entrees ranging from $15-$25, the restaurant has received many good reviews.

      What can I say? In Southport there are several good resturants, but Ports of Call is one of the best. Not a big menu, but what’s there is excellent and if you like sauces, nowhere in Southport can you find better.
      It’s so good, my wife and I will be there tonight to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary.
      Give it a try. If you like excellent cuisine, this is the place.

      There are few cruisers who are not “foodies” and restaurant hunting is high on most in-port priority lists. Blue Moon is located within easy walking distance of the Beaufort Municipal Docks, and according to Captain Barney, it sounds wonderful. We also HIGHLY recommend Spouter Inn and Beaufort Grocery Company (Restaurant) for all who coil their lines in Beaufort, NC!

      Blue Moon Bistro is a must for foodies. Perfect preparation and professional waitstaff. Best food around. Located at 119 Queen St., one block from the waterfront.

      Anchoring Restriction, Bath Creek, 16.2 Nautical Miles off the AICW on Pamlico River

      Bath Creek Anchorage lies on the centerline of Bath Creek, north of marker #4 and south of the the fixed, 13-foot Bath Creek Bridge in Bath, NC. Bath Creek itself cuts into the southern shores of the Pamlico River, between the AICW and Washington, NC.
      This is the very first we have heard about any sort of anchorage time restriction on these waters, or most any other North Carolina waters for that matter. If ANYONE has more info on this time limit, PLEASE click the “Comment on This Posting/Marina/Anchorage/Bridge” link below, and share your information

      I was told that there is a town ordinance prohibiting anchoring longer than one week in Bath Creek. I left my boat on the hook there for two weeks and was threatened with a `violation’ by some town official. Paul Minor at Bath Creek Marina was nice enough to come out and warn me.

      Report on St. James Plantation Marina, AICW Statute Mile 315

      St. James Plantation Marina is on the Waterway’s northerly banks, some 1 nautical mile west of flashing daybeacon #16.

      Protected marina. Easy access. Good service until 7 p.m.
