Praise for “Ports of Call” in Southport, NC, AICW Statute Mile 309
Ports of Call Restaurant (phone: 910-457-4544) is located at 116 N. Howe St, only a few block east of Southport Marina, A SALTY SOUTHEAST CRUISERS NET SPONSOR. With a Mediterranean menu of entrees ranging from $15-$25, the restaurant has received many good reviews.
What can I say? In Southport there are several good resturants, but Ports of Call is one of the best. Not a big menu, but what’s there is excellent and if you like sauces, nowhere in Southport can you find better.
It’s so good, my wife and I will be there tonight to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary.
Give it a try. If you like excellent cuisine, this is the place.

Praise for Blue Moon Bistro, Beaufort, NC, AICW Satutue Mile 201
There are few cruisers who are not “foodies” and restaurant hunting is high on most in-port priority lists. Blue Moon is located within easy walking distance of the Beaufort Municipal Docks, and according to Captain Barney, it sounds wonderful. We also HIGHLY recommend Spouter Inn and Beaufort Grocery Company (Restaurant) for all who coil their lines in Beaufort, NC!
Blue Moon Bistro is a must for foodies. Perfect preparation and professional waitstaff. Best food around. Located at 119 Queen St., one block from the waterfront.

Anchoring Restriction, Bath Creek, 16.2 Nautical Miles off the AICW on Pamlico River
Bath Creek Anchorage lies on the centerline of Bath Creek, north of marker #4 and south of the the fixed, 13-foot Bath Creek Bridge in Bath, NC. Bath Creek itself cuts into the southern shores of the Pamlico River, between the AICW and Washington, NC.
This is the very first we have heard about any sort of anchorage time restriction on these waters, or most any other North Carolina waters for that matter. If ANYONE has more info on this time limit, PLEASE click the “Comment on This Posting/Marina/Anchorage/Bridge” link below, and share your information
I was told that there is a town ordinance prohibiting anchoring longer than one week in Bath Creek. I left my boat on the hook there for two weeks and was threatened with a `violation’ by some town official. Paul Minor at Bath Creek Marina was nice enough to come out and warn me.

St. James Plantation Marina is on the Waterway’s northerly banks, some 1 nautical mile west of flashing daybeacon #16.
Protected marina. Easy access. Good service until 7 p.m.

South Harbor Village Marina guards the Waterway’s northern shoreline, a short hop west of unlighted daybeacon #8, and not far from the mouth of the Cape Fear River.
This marina is hidden but a good stop. Daylight service. Costs reasonable. Contact first on cell phone.

More Good Words for Casper’s Marine Service, AICW Statute Mile 229
Casper’s Marine Service lies at the western foot of the Swansboro channel -northeast of flashing daybeacon #46C in Swansboro, NC.
Casper’s Marina went out out of their way to make us feel welcome. After hours, they drove us to Piggly Wiggly and back, brought out the manual pump out because we desperately needed one, and even gave crew a thermal undershirt to keep warm. Very friendly and accommodating.

Report on River Forest Manor Marina, AICW Statute Mile 135.5
River Forest Marina and Manor will be the first facility spied upon entering Pantego Creek and Belhaven Harbor from Pungo River. And they are A SALTY SOUTHEAST CRUISERS’ NET SPONSOR!
Came into marina during thunderstorm. Staff assisted with docking. They have very long fuel line. Cost a little pricey, but facility satisfactory.

Good Words for Oriental Harbor Marina, AICW Statute Mile 181
Oriental Harbor Marina is on the northwestern shore of Oriental Harbor’s entrance off the Neuse River, not be confused with Oriental Marina which is on the eastern banks of Oriental’s inner harbor.
This is a nice stop. Very helpful Staff. Restaurant across street. Came in during storm and staff was helpful.

Report on Alligator River Marina, AICW Statute Mile 84
Alligator River Marina lies on the western shore of the Alligator River/AICW, just north of the swing bridge and southwest of flashing daybeacon #12.
This is a difficult marina to get into after dark. The boss lady said that most of her business is daytime. However, if weather changes across Albamarle Sound and you get delayed it would be nice for clearly marked entrance thru breakwater.

Report on Town Creek Marina, Beaufort, NC, near AICW Statute Mile 201
Town Creek Marina is located on the northern banks of Town Creek, southeast of the Gallants Channel’s flashing daybeacon #14, departing the Waterway southeast at marker #30, mile 201, .
I had mechanical problems and SeaTow recommended this marina because they had mechanics. Steve Tulevech was service manager and handled problem. Their mechanic fixed problem and the charge was very reasonable. They also have very good restaurant with seafood at reasonable prices. I recommend this marina. They have parts department if you need any parts or mechanical supplies.

Report on Carolina Beach State Park Marina, AICW Statute Mile 297
The long awaited remodeling and reopening of this fine facility has happened! The State Park entrance channel cuts off from the AICW, at the western end of Snows Cut, between markers #163 and #165.
This marina has to be a best kept secret. It is newly dredged with all new docks for $30.00 per day including 60 amps and water. The state park is a nice place to walk. Vessel length is limited. We are 37 feet and we used all of the slip.

A Visit to Silver Lake, Ocracoke, NC off the AICW in Pamlico Sound
Silver Lake Harbor Anchorage lies in the venerable shadow of the 75 ft. Ocracoke Light and is accessible from the NW via Nine Foot Shoal Channel or by Big Foot Slough Channel, which has been recently dredged, and from the south via the Ocracoke Inlet.
We made our annual trip to Ocracoke this past weekend and anchored in Silver Lake. Silver Lake has great holding, 10-foot depths and can hold a good 20 boats. The water is a good clarity enough so I could clean the hull and running gear, but still gets some sediment from the ferry traffic.
Last year, you could get free wifi in Silver Lake, but this year no longer. There is a `Silver Lake Harbor’ site broadcasting, but it is password-protected, with no opportunity to access ‘“ free, paid, or otherwise. This was disappointing, but that’s life. 3G still works. Someone is missing the boat (pun intended) by not having a free log-on through an ad-sponsored portal.

I came out of Silver Lake on 7/16/11 through Nine Foot Shoal Channel, concerned that it may have shoaled further over the winter at Red 8. I had good depths and showed 7ft for about a hundred feet right at Red 8, just like the chart shows, so it did not appear to have shoaled any further. Just call it Seven Foot Shoal Channel from now on.

Report on Upper Goose Creek Anchorage on the Pamlico River, 17 Miles off the AICW
Upper Goose Creek Anchorage lies due north of Pamlico River’s, Blounts Bay marker #8. Cruisers’ Net does not recommend that cruising size craft enter this creek. It has an unmarked shoal surrounding the entrance. Only adventurous captains using a GPS chartplotter should attempt entrance and ONLY then if they are willing to risk finding the bottom! Obviously Skipper Keith is a risk-taker who loves to explore. (See Swanquarter posting.) Do not confuse this Upper Goose Creek with the “Upper Goose Creek Anchorage” off the Neuse River as found in our NC Anchorage Directory.
I just took my 4 1/2 foot draft sailboat well up into Goose Creek State Park (between Bath and Washington) and never touched bottom even with the wind tide about 1 foot low. I anchored near a primitive campground which has a small dock that I could row to for water and a bathroom. It was a GREAT spot.
